Where I am from we call it mineral wool. This material is very dense.It has a high melting point. It is used primarily as insulation for sound and a flame barrier between 2 rooms. You will need a sharp knife to cut this material.I use a fillet knife and sometimes a bread knife depending on the thickness of the mineral wool. Wear a dust mask and cover exposed skin areas as this stuff is itchy to some. Rock wool should be found at a lumber company.
